Punta Bergantín and the Ámbar Highway: what’s coming to the north coast

    Por Esdras Cuello

Something big is happening in Puerto Plata, and if you are interested in investing on the north coast, you should know about it.

The Punta Bergantín project has already sold over US$130 million in land and is getting ready to start building its first hotel. This is not just another announcement: it is the clearest sign that institutional investment has set its sights on this area.

    Why does it matter?

When a project of this scale attracts over US$130 million before even breaking ground on its first hotel, the message is clear: major investors believe the north coast will be worth more tomorrow than it is today. And real estate history says that where big investment goes, surrounding prices tend to rise afterward.

The Ámbar Highway changes the map

The Ámbar Highway, which will connect Santiago with Puerto Plata, is strengthening connectivity across the entire region. Better access means more visitors, more demand for lodging and more buyer interest — the classic formula for appreciation.

    The cruise ships keep coming

Puerto Plata receives around 2 million cruise passengers a year between the Taino Bay and Amber Cove terminals, and the Ministry of Tourism projects growth for November and December 2026. Every cruise passenger is a potential returning visitor, and many end up looking for a place to stay — or a place to invest.

    What about Sosúa and Cabarete?

Here is what is interesting for you: projects like Fortunity and Riviera del Mar are already offering properties to local and international buyers in the area. The spillover effect of Punta Bergantín does not stay in Puerto Plata — Sosúa and Cabarete are right on the path of growth.

When infrastructure improves and major projects arrive, nearby areas with still-affordable prices tend to benefit the most. Today, buying in Sosúa or Cabarete means getting in before the wave fully arrives.

What this means if you want to invest

    • Today’s price window will not last forever. Infrastructure and megaprojects push values upward over time.
    • Vacation rental demand is growing with more tourists and better connectivity.
    • Getting in early — in pre-construction or in growing areas — has historically been where the best appreciation is found.
